Release date and filming delay

According to Netflix, the third season of Stranger Things has been the premiere that has had the greatest popularity within the streaming platform. That is why at the end of 2019 the process of writing the fourth began. Already for September 30 of last year, the new installment of the series was officially confirmed. At first, what was read the most on the internet is that it would be released in December of this year or, at most, at the beginning of the next.

All this because of a video posted on Instagram by the actor who plays Mike Wheeler, Finn Wolfhard, in which it was mentioned that he would have a Christmas. The Byers and Wheelers talked about the very remote possibility of spending the holidays together.

Since on other occasions the themes of the previous seasons have coincided with the American holidays, Halloween and the 4th of July respectively, it could have been believed that this time the same would happen.

However, with the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic and the health alert in which all the countries of the world are, the filming had to stop suddenly, as it happened with many other productions. Gaten Matarazzo, best known for his role as Dustin, on June 6 of this year in a GalaxyCon video conference, expressed to his fans each of the concerns he had about when the possible restart of filming would be.

There he commented that the work had begun and that in the middle of the shoot everything stopped. Also, despite having said that it would be two weeks, more than three months had already passed. According to information provided by the Screen Rant website, the recordings began in mid-February. This was confirmed after David Harbor will show it on an Instagram live, in which he asserted that the Release date would be scheduled for early 2021.

Luckily for Matarazzo, who was impatient to get back to work, the online magazine, Deadline.com, assured on its social networks that filming finally began on September 28, 2020. For now, the exact date of the premiere is still unknown, it is most possible that it will be postponed until the first half of next year, since the health situation in America still continues, and the rest of the continents.

If the first installment came out on July 15, 2016, the second on October 27, 2017 and the third on July 4, 2019, everything seems to indicate that this time it will also take a long time to enjoy the dangerous adventures of our favorite gang. The only thing that is certain is that Dustin, Eleven, Mike and Lucas will already be older and that the first episode will be called “The Hellfire Club.”

Where will the season take place?

In case you do not remember, the end of Stranger Things 3 brought about a myriad of changes in the lives of the protagonists, especially in that of Eleven, who ends up moving to the outskirts of Hawkins with the Byers family. Does this mean that the small town will no longer be the meeting point for history? Where will the group of friends live now?

These unknowns are half solved in the teaser released more than a year ago, in which it is clearly stated that the adventures will extend to the far limits of the mythical town of Indiana. In the promotional video the phrase is placed: “We’re Not In Hawkins Anymore”. That “never again” stands out well in the official announcement, but still does not clear all doubts.

Although it is not precisely known where Joyce, Eleven, Will and Jonathan live, many specialized websites claim that the new season will take place nothing more and nothing less than in the desert Kamchatka Peninsula, located in eastern Russia. Therefore, it is also believed that this is where they have Hopper locked in a kind of gulag.

Distribution

As for the cast, it can be expected that in season 4 the vast majority of the main characters from the previous installment will return. These are as follows:

  • Winona Ryder (Joyce Byers)
  • David Harbor (Jim Hopper)
  • Finn Wolfhard (Mike Wheeler)
  • Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven / Jane Hopper)
  • Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin Henderson)
  • Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas Sinclair)
  • Natalia Dyer (Nancy Wheeler)
  • Cara Buono (Karen Wheeler)
  • Noah Schnapp (Will Byers)
  • Joe Keery (Steve Harrington)
  • Sadie Sink (Max Mayfield)
  • Joe Chrest (Ted Wheeler)
  • Priah Ferguson (Erica Sinclair)
  • Maya Hawke (Robin)
  • Brett Gelman (Murray Bauman)

As expressed by Deadline magazine, on March 3, 2020, American actor and comedian Brett Gelman will be placed in a higher rank as a series regular. In the event that his name doesn’t come to mind, Gelman plays reporter Murray Bauman, a fan of conspiracy theories who, for part of the series, was responsible for helping Hopper and the young journalists, Nancy and Jonathan.

The departure of Dacre Montgomery (Billy) and Alec Utgoff (Alexei) is finalized, because of their tragic deaths. For his part, the return of Cary Elwes in the role of corrupt mayor and Paul Reiser as the former director of that county laboratory, Sam Owens, has not yet been ruled out. In addition, it is more than obvious that we would love to see the beloved primary school teacher “Mr. Clarke ”(Randall P. Havens).

What we are sure of is that the witty little Erica Sinclair (Priah Ferguson) has been an excellent find. In Stranger Things 4 it will be given much more prominence. As a guest star, we will possibly have Joel Stoffer from the series ‘Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD’. The Duffer brothers stated in an interview with Deadline that special cameos will not be lacking this year, as it is a good way to meet their idols.

Is it the last season?

To the disappointment of many, in 2017 in an interview with the New York Magazine The Duffers gave the medium as a scoop that they only planned to do four seasons. Since then, both they, and Shawn Levy, have stated plenty of times that perhaps there is a slim chance of a fifth and final installment, no more than there.

Despite this, Netflix has left the doors wide open for them in case they want to make other productions in the future, which their users will obviously love. In an official statement from the platform, Ted Sarandos, co-executive director and content director, expressed that he could not wait to see what the Duffers had prepared once they left the world of the Upside Down.
