Within the governmental structures of many countries, public officials have as part of their powers, to make decisions that in some way can directly benefit them.

These benefits that public employees have, usually, are related to obtaining more quotas of power or personalism in government actions, and to achieve these perks, one of the most used strategies is to place close people in key positions, where through them, you have more influence.

The nepotism is that favoritism shown by some public officials, when entering or influencing the income of family, friends and associates in positions of public administration.

These close people may or may not have the qualifications or merits necessary to exercise public office.

And this is how, placing close people in places within the government becomes a fast track to increase government inefficiency and corruption.

What these public employees value to join family members and associates in the public administration is their loyalty or the alliances previously made. East favoritism is contrary to Universal Declaration of Human Rights because it violates the basic principle of equal opportunities.

There are Latin American countries with a long tradition of nepotism, which was born during the Spanish conquest, since favoritism was part of the colonial system. And now, these behaviors are part of the political culture of Latin American countries, where politicians do not see badly that their relatives take advantage of their position.

Due to the political benefits it grants to the dominant social elites, in almost none of the countries where it exists, is nepotism fought.

And it is that this use that public officials make of their condition, translates into greater power and personalism. For this reason, we have not seen, in almost any country, that someone seriously fights against nepotism, be it a political party, a union or a governmental institution.

Groups that are in political or economic power are interested in maintaining their status quo, which is why they promote the existence of nepotism in governments. What many people are still not clear about is that the favoritism is an enemy of equity and is a breeding ground for corruption.

So we cannot feel comfortable in a society where some have special treatment, and privileges that have not been earned on their own merit.

Nepotism is not a show of solidarity, it is a crime and therefore it is important to report it! Basically because It is a way used by politicians and officials to exchange favors, buy votes, loyalties and wills. What allows them to perpetuate themselves in power, only in order to continue enjoying privileges that violate the fundamental human rights of other citizens. And everyone, we should have the opportunity to compete fairly and fairly for public office.

Each person must be elected for their own qualities, knowledge and merits, without being benefited by the connections or contacts they have in the government.

This NGO exists since 1993, dedicating itself to promoting the creation of procedures, conditions and factors that prevent and reduce corruption in the world.

Since 1995, this organization publishes the corruption perception index, which measures from zero to one hundred points, the level of corruption in the public sector of each country.

According to the 2018 Corruption Perception Index, the top six least corrupt countries were: Denmark (88), followed by New Zealand (87), Finland, Sweden, Singapore Y Swiss (85).
